Turquoise The Name means "Turkish stone" because the trade route that brought it to Europe used to come via turkey. Up to 1911 when crystals were found in Virginia (U.S.), turquoise was though to be amorphous. A pure, blue color is rare, most pieces
contain turquoise matrix, which may be brown (limonite), dark gray (sandstone), or black (jasper or psilomelane). It can also be inter grown with malachite and chrysocolla.A negative change in color can brought about by light, perspiration, oils, and cosmetics as well as loss of natural water content. Turquoise rings should be removed before hands are washed. Aurthor:Walter Schumann; Gemstones of the world
